In 2021 Texas was hit with a "Snowpocalypse" which left my family and I without power for several days. A couple years and a couple freezes later I decided I wanted to install a whole house backup system so we wouldn't be without power again. Initially the cost didn't seem too bad for the generator, but when it came to installing it, I was in for a shock... After receiving multiple quotes averaging $17,000 on a whole house backup system, I decided to go with a portable generator option and I built a Quality Fire-Resistant Generator Shed to power my whole house for less than 1/3 of the cost
(including the generator and accessories)
After sharing my experience in a community of people looking to build their
own whole house generator sheds I realized there was a lot of interest in the
shed I built. After a lot of thought, time and effort I compiled a 37 page step by step "How To Guide" complete with Materials, Tools, Links and Visual Aids to help others build their own Quality Fire-Resistant Sheds. I am not a professional builder by any means, but for those that have some level of proficiency in construction this project isn't that difficult to complete.
